It's a good idea to experience what being handcuffed will feel like, physically and emotionally. I can tell you, though, that the way Keith was handcuffed was not how I think most cops would handcuff you. He was cuffed so his hands were apart and low on his back, which made it possible - even easy - for him to slip his cuffed hands under his butt and then around his legs, putting himself in a much easier position to escape or cause the cop trouble.
Dale was cuffed much more realistically. His hands were crossed, cuffed close together, and were higher on his back. The result was less ability to escape, but it was accompanied with more pain.

I have been handcuffed a couple times by cops, and at least one of those times (I don't remember if the cop was this nice the first time) the cop made sure to ask if the cuffs were too tight and to adjust them when they became too tight. I have also been cuffed numerous times in my 4-day stint in jail, including ankle-cuffs, and the cops there never asked whether there was pain, but they also never cuffed them in a way to cause me pain.

I've been cuffed by cops numerous times too. They have never been too tight, and they double lock the cuffs so they can't accidentally tighten when you are against a wall or in the police car.
For the times I've been shackled and in leg irons, they actually put them on fairly loosely. I might have been able to slip the cuffs off, but then I'd have to explain why i wasn't in them anymore. And leg irons are usually fairly loose because they can't really slip off a foot anyways.

Thanks for the info, Anonymous. When Sam was arrested, the cops apparently didn't double-lock the cuffs and they did clamp down on his wrist and bracelet, cutting into his skin. When they did my cuffs, they were a little tight (the cop asked me if they were too tight, but he didn't adjust them). I was in leg cuffs a few times during my one stint in jail; they were relatively loose, but of course you can't take very big steps.
Good idea!
